20 centres declared sensitive for Intermediate exams in Lahore

LAHORE (APP): Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Lahore has finalized all arrangements to hold annual Intermediate examination-2009, starting from April 21 while 20 centres have also been declared sensitive. The Controller Examination Manzoor-ul-Hassan Niazi talking to APP here on Monday said that all arrangements had been finalized to hold the examination in a peaceful and transparent manner. He said that 529 examination centres have been established in all five districts- Lahore, Okara, Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib falling in the jurisdiction of BISE. He added that due to the chances of interference from political or other unauthorised persons, the board declared 20 centres as sensitive while appropriate measures have also been taken to make the atmosphere peaceful. Niazi said that 129,948 male and female candidates are appearing in the annual Inter examination. He said that 3,000 officials have been appointed to conduct the examination adding that, out of the total 529 examination centres, 248 have been set up for female candidates, 278 for male candidates and 3 combined centres while in Lahore only 338 centres have been set up. Niazi said that BISE also constituted monitoring teams to check the transparency in the examination centres. The BISE Lahore had organized workshops in its affiliated districts to impart special training to examination staff to ensure transparency, he said. "A complaint cell has also been established at the BISE office which will remain functional 24 hours including Sunday. The Controller said that BISE forwarded written request to the Punjab Government for provision of necessary security particularly at the sensitive centres to avoid any untoward incident during examination. The LESCO had also been requested to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the examination centres, he added. The roll number slips of the private candidates have been despatched to them at their respective mailing address, while roll number slips to regular candidates had been sent through their relevant institutions.
