Punjab University organized "All Pakistan Mehfil-e-Mushaira" in lawn of  Allama Iqbal Campus

LAHORE: Punjab University Oriental College's Department of Urdu organized "All Pakistan Mehfil-e-Mushaira" in the lawn of the college at Allama Iqbal (Old) Campus last night. Renowned poet Shahzad Ahmad chaired the mushaira while Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr Muhammad Kamran and Marghoob Hussain Tahir performed the duties of comparers. In his welcome address, Urdu Department Chairman Prof Dr Tehseen Firaqi briefed the guests about the academic activities of the department and said the mushaira of such kind was being conducted after a long period of 32 years. 'However, now the mushaira would be conducted on regular basis yearly', he added. In his address, Faulty of Oriental Learning Dean Prof Dr Muhammad Saleem Mazhar said living nations always give equal importance to literature and art as to science and technology. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran congratulated the Urdu Department for holding successful mushaira and said that such functions were of immense importance to polish students' skills. He resolved his commitment to utilize all resources to promote literary culture and said peace and love messages could be promoted through poetry and literature. Renowned national poets including Zafar Iqbal, Anwar Masood, Aftikhar Arif, Izhar-ul-Haq, Atta-ul-Haq Qasmi, Khalid Sharif, Oriya Maqbool Jan, Tanvir Murshad, Hafeez-ur-Rehman Ahsan, Saud Usmani, Khalid Masood, Yasmeen Hameed, Rashid Mateen, Shahnawaz Farooqi, Ajmal Siraj, Safdar Saleem Sayyal, Shahid Gul, Shaheen Abbas, Shanawar Ishaq, Imran Naqvi, Saima Kamran, Asmat Ullah Zahid, Moeen Nizami, Naheed Shah, Shoaib Ahmad, Tehseen Firaqi, Fakhrul Haq Noori, Muhammad Kamran, Marghoob Hussain Tahir, Arifa Shahzad, Shahida Dilawar Shah presented their poetry.
