Aga Khan University inks MoU with Canadian university

Karachi:In an effort to increase global engagement between developing countries and the West, Aga Khan University (AKU) signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Alberta in Canada.

Partnerships, such as this one, build capacity in the developing world where it is needed most, but more importantly, they build compassion and understanding across our interconnected world, said AKU President Firoz Rasul at the signing ceremony with the University of Albertas President Indira Samarasekera.

The ceremony was attended by Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach and the Aga Khan, founder and chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network.Through the agreement, the two universities and two additional agencies of Aga Khan Development Network - University of Central Asia and Aga Khan Trust for Culture - aim to promote human progress and social justice by partnering on subjects such as health sciences education, humanities development and library planning, biodiversity conservation and sustainable land use programmes with particular emphasis on mountain environments and semi-arid regions.

Over the past 25 years, AKU has fostered partnerships with several universities in Canada and across the world, including the University of McMaster, the University of Waterloo, University of Toronto, Harvard University and Oxford University.
