9th National Research Conference on Management Sciences at SZABIST Islamabad

Islamabad:Minister of State for Education Ghulam Farid Kathia Thursday said that research activities will not only result in the production of true researcher, but will also result in opportunities where the industry will be able to experience future growth by developing new products.

The minister was speaking at the 9th National Research Conference on Management and Computer Sciences at SZABIST here. He advised the students that they should make sure that whatever they investigate must have some benefit to the industry. A research that cannot be applied, or further worked on, has no meaning.

According to an international survey, he informed that in 2006, the worlds four largest spenders of R&D were the United States (US$343 billion), the EU (US$231 billion), China (US$136 billion), and Japan (US$130 billion). In general, research and development activities are conducted by specialized units belonging to companies, universities and state agencies. Unfortunately, we have a very small share in applicable research and development domain of the world.

Besides SZABIST, students of different universities also participated in the conference where 150 research papers were presented. SZABIST Islamabad Campus head Syed Asad Hussain said that in this challenging and competitive environment, SZABIST was trying to promote research culture in Pakistan so that new ways and techniques can be built to compete with developed countries of the world.
