Major teaching hospital doctors on token strike

Peshawar (PPI): Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) on Friday kicked off token strike in major teaching hospitals including Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad, in favour of forming services structures and other demands. An insider of PDA commented that the doctors would only cover the emergency units of the hospitals, while the token strike would continue till three days and if the demands of the doctors would not accept, they would announce complete boycott. The members of PDA bind black-ribbons around their arms while performing their duties in the wards of Lady Reading Hospital, Khyber Teaching Hospital, Hayatabad Medical Complex and Ayub Medical Complex, while the doctors in emergency units fully performed duties. According to Provincial Doctor Association provincial Secretary Information Dr Habibullah, while talking to this news agency, said that the association had already provided report regarding the pertaining problems and issues of doctors, but it had not taken any step so-far. He said that the doctors were demanding forming service structures; make equal the salaries of under-training doctors like in Punjab, suitable residences for doctors, provision of security and other legal demands. The press secretary of PDA further said that on Friday, the doctors had started token strike in Hayatabad Medical Complex, Lady Reading Hospital, Khyber Teaching Hospital and Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad, where the doctors only give emergency coverage during the period. He threatened that if the ANP-led provincial government had not accepted the demands of the doctors within three days, the PDA would announce complete boycott and would extend the protest drive to other parts of the province. “We do not mean to stuck patients in problems but we mean to get our rights, if the government serious to resolve our problems, we would stop boycott, otherwise would announce complete boycott of wards and OPD and emergency coverage might be stopped,” Dr Habibullah told PPI, while talking to the news agency exclusively.
