Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute provided Rs 8 millions to needy students

SWABI: Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology has provided Rs 8 millions as financial assistance to the needy students who otherwise competed on merit, said the sources on Sunday. Officials in admission office said that the financial assistances is for those deserving students who got admission in the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Sciences and Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering. Jehangir Bashar, Rector of the Institute said that a candidate who qualifies the entry test is not deprived of admission in the GIK Institute for the reason of financial stringency as they provide financial assistance to deserving students in such cases. He said that the identification of the needy students is a rigorous process and the Rector, Secretary of the Society for the Promotion of Engineering Sciences and Technology in Pakistan (SOPREST) and other officials are involved in the entire procedure of selection of the students for the financial assistance. "The financial assistance is being provided each year to the needy students and the Institute allocates 10 per cent of the whole tuition fee for this purpose. The amount would increase over a period with increase in the student population," he said. It would be cruel to deny admission to the outstanding student of proven merit simply because he/she or his/her family cannot afford the fees that are charging by the Institute, he said. We, in the Institute, will spare no effort to provide the necessary environment to the students for their optimal growth in personal, moral, and professional terms, he said, adding that we have one of the best faculties in the country that will lead, guide and advise the students throughout their study in the Institute.
