students boycotted & protest against missing of Pakistani Dr Ayyaz in UAE

Lahore: The academic staff and students of dental colleges in the province boycotted their classes and held demonstrations on Thursday in protest against the missing of Pakistani dentist Prof Dr Ayyaz Ali Khan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Prof Ayyaz, who was on a visit to the College of Dental Sciences Rasul-Khaymah as an academic consultant, had reportedly been missing in the UAE for the last one-and-a-half-month along with two other Pakistanis.

In Lahore, De' Montmorency College of Dentistry held a demonstration which was also participated in by the family of Prof Ayyaz. College Principal Prof Muhammad Saeed, Punjab Dental College Medical Superintendent Prof Shahina Nusrat, Pakistan Dental Association President Prof Waheedul Hamid, Prof Sohail Abbas Khan and other teachers and students were also present.

The protesters raised slogans against the government for 'doing nothing' for safe release of the dentist.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Shahina Nusrat said Prof Ayyaz was a respectful personality in the dental profession and he played an important role for the advancement of dental education in the country.

Prof Muhammad Saeed said Prof Ayyaz had a long association with De' Montmorency College and he was a thorough gentleman.

They also passed a resolution in this regard and expressed concern at a "no response" attitude of the federal government for the recovery of the dentist.

They urged President Zardari to take note of the issue and contact the UAE authorities for the recovery of Prof Ayyaz. Dawn
