KEMU not invite old graduates to convocation
LAHORE - King Edward Medical University has refused to allow old graduates of 1998 to 2006 to attend the upcoming convocation on June 12, 2010, sources in the university told this scribe on Sunday.
The sources added that a delegation of old graduates would also meet Governor Punjab to put their issue before him for redressing their grievances. A graduate said that university management has made promises with them to let them attend the convocation but now in the upcoming convocation the administration is not giving permission to the medal winner of 1998 to 2003 to receive their medals. The administration is of the view that there is not enough space in the Library Hall to accommodate such number of graduates at the same time.
But the affectees graduates are of the view that the administration should hire Aiwan-e-Iqbal or Alhamra Hall to accommodate maximum number of students and their parents. It is worth mentioning here that the university administration has invited only graduates of 2007 and medal winners of 2006 to participate in the convocation to receive their certificates and medals.
Every year 225 graduates are completing their education from KEMU and so far 1,500 to 2,000 graduates are waiting for their degrees and about 150 are waiting for their medals, said a doctor deputed at Mayo hospital.
He said on June 12 the administration has also not invited the parents of the students who will receive their medals and certificates.
An old graduate seeking anonymity said, “we are in contact with each other and if university management did not allow us to participate we will protest to convey our demands to the rulers”. We will also not avoid to come on roads, he said and demanded the varsity administration to change their venue and let them participate.
The graduates said that all pending graduates should be invited like Allama Iqbal Medical College and Sheikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan have done. When this scribe wanted to know the point of view of the Vice Chancellor of KEMU, Professor Dr Zafarullah Khan. His cell phone remained unattended.Nation
