Aga Khan University Exam Board  announces HSSC results
Karachi:All the position holders in the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) examination 2010 from the Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB) are from Karachi.

This year’s top position holder, Muhammad Aziz from Aga Khan Higher Secondary School Karachi, achieved 88.2 per cent. The second and third position holders — Syed Akber Ali Shah with 87.9 per cent and Mehak Rajani with 87.5 per cent – are also from the same school.

The number of HSSC II candidates appearing in the exam this year was twice the number last year. The overall passing percentage was 85.7.

“Students last year got admission to over 60 leading universities and higher education institutions worldwide, including the University of Regina in Canada, the University of Hertfordshire in the UK and top Pakistani medical and engineering universities, including NED University of Engineering and Technology, Dow University of Health Sciences and Lahore University of Management Sciences,” said Dr Thomas Christie, Director AKU-EB. “Our HSSC candidates have the skills to compete and get into leading universities anywhere.”

To facilitate students moving from higher secondary education to university studies, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan and AKU-EB have been collaborating for the past two years on refining testing and assessment practices in universities across the country.

“Because educational standards cannot be improved in isolation, we are pleased to be working with the HEC to expand the perception of learning to something more than that which can be measured with just marks. Assessment is also about preparing a child with the critical thinking skills to be able to adapt to any situation in his or her future,” stated Dr Christie.

The candidates may view this year’s HSSC results online with a detailed breakdown on how they performed as compared to their group peers, AKU spokesperson said. The news
