600 students awarded degrees in COMSATS convocation
ISLAMABAD: COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) held its 31st convocation at Jinnah Convention Centre on Wednesday and awarded graduate and postgraduate degrees to over 600 students.

Addressing the gathering, CIIT Rector Dr SM Junaid Zaidi said the acquirement of knowledge and higher education were virtually transforming every aspect of today’s world. He said the IT institutions were trusted to be the centre stage of academia as they had the mandate to evolve a knowledge based socioeconomic culture in the country to help the nation in facing modern challenges of globalization.

CIIT announced two awards - Dr QK Ghori award for the best thesis of mathematics and Kausar Bashir (KBA) award for the best performer in architecture. Over 600 students secured BS, MS and master degrees. Two PhD degrees were awarded in Biosciences while one PhD degree was awarded in Physics. Graduate and postgraduate students bagged campus medals, institute medals and chancellor’s gold medals with 3.75 CGPA.

The chancellor’s gold medalists included Jawad Hussain, Atiq-ur-Rehman, Abdul Majeed Fazal, Muhammad Ali Rafique, Sumbul Sajjad, Sakina Shabbir, Amtul Samie Maqbool, Waqar Shams, and Zeeshan Munawar.

The Federal Minister for Science and Technology and CIIT Chancellor Muhammad Azam Khan Swati, who was the chief guest on the occasion, awarded degrees and awards to the students.

Addressing at the occasion, he appreciated the efforts of CIIT faculty, its management and visionary leadership. He said the CIIT recognized its duties and was committed to providing best opportunities for learning and personal developments within a caring and supportive environment.
