In Islamabad Varsities Observe Black Day Against VC's Abduction
ISLAMABAD - On the call of Association of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA), the universities of the Federal Capital observed Black Day against the Government and the Higher Education Commission for not getting released abducted Vice Chancellor of the Islamia College University Peshawar, Dr Ajmal Khan.
In Sindh the universities have already observed the day on November10, in Balochistan on November 11 and in Punjab, Islamabad and AJK the universities protested silently on Friday for the safe release of Dr Ajmal Khan.
The teaching faculty of the universities wore black armbands and displayed banners demanding the release of the VC and condemning apathetic attitude of the Government towards the academics. However, the faculty members did not boycott the classes.
The teaching faculty of Quaid-i-Azam University observed Black Day to protest against gruesome murder of Dr Farooq Khan and early release of Dr Ajmal Khan. Dr Eatzaz Ahmad, President, and DrGulraiz Akhter, Secretary, ASA, expressed their dismay and frustration at the attitude of authorities which, miserably failed to trace out Dr Ajmal Khan. They condemned the attitude of the Government especially the Chancellor of the Islamia College University who is also Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Dr Gulraiz Akhter said the academicians are performing a noble cause and kidnapping them in a broad daylight without any reason was against the values and norms of any society. He urged the authorities to make necessary arrangements to ensure security of the teaching community in vulnerable areas.
He lamented that the Government was not doing any thing for his release and the HEC is also showing a criminal silence. He said the Government should provide such type of security to all the VCs, which it was providing to the ministers. He said that due to the Government’s attitude the teachers of all public-sector universities in KPK were observing on strike for the last five days.Nation
