LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has constituted a high-level committee in connection with entry test for the current academic year for admission in medical colleges in a transparent and improved fashion. This committee will make its recommendations regarding short term measures within 48 hours and long term measures within two weeks for approval of the Chief Minister Punjab. The committee headed by Secretary Health comprising Chairman P&D, Secretary Higher Education, Justice (Retd) Mian Mahboob Ahmad, Chairman BOM, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Lahore, Principal FJMC Dr. Abdul Majeed Chaudhry, Dr. Naeemuddin Mian, Prof. Dr. Amir Aziz, Dr. Ali Cheema of LUMS, Mrs. Nusrat Jahan, Dr. Tahir Ali Javed MPA, Dr. Zafarullah Khan, Vice Chancellor KEMU Lahore besides Vice Chancellors UET and UHS Lahore as its members. In the short term measures, the Committee will make its recommendations how the system of entry can be made more reliable and credible with a given time limit, remove regional and social inequalities with special focus on the handicaps being faced by the students from far-flung areas and belonging to poor families vis-à-vis students of developed cities and belonging to affluent classes. The committee will also review the commercial aspect, resulting in exorbitant fees, being charged by the academies, offering courses to clear entry test, be regulated by resorting to various options e.g. banning of these academies etc. The Committee will suggest as to which institution is best suited to conduct the exam in a transparent and equitable way, at various centers across the province and mechanism for rationalizing the equivalence criteria for A-Level students. In the long term measures, the Committee will examine the current system of F.Sc. examination in detail and make suggestions as how the F.Sc. examination be made uniform across the province in terms of marking standard and paper setting transparent and free of cheating/menace of "Booti Mafia" with the objective of achieving a status where entry test can be done away from the next academic session.
