Peshawar Board HSSC examination position holders

HSSC toppers seek Punjab-like treatment

Peshawar, Sep 03, 2008: Parents of the students who won top three positions in the 2008 HSSC examination of Peshawar Board Tuesday appealed to the provincial government to help them with the education of these poor but brilliant students.

Muhammad Bilal, son of a retired bank cashier, clinched first position in all the federal and provincial boards in the province by securing 981 marks. His father Fazlur Rahman said that "I could not afford his studies in my limited income.

Though the boy qualified the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) entry test but due to financial constraints, it is very hard to arrange money for his admission", the desperate father added. Fazlur Rahman added his son deserved to be sponsored by the government for his studies owing to his brilliant academic results.

"Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharrif had announced huge financial support for toppers in the boards in Punjab, however, the NWFP chief minister and the vocal provincial education minister have not even congratulated these brilliant children of the Pakhtun nation", remarked well-informed Khan Muhammad of Gulberg area. The poor student, who topped Punjab Board, was not only honoured with guard of honour but was also presented with five million rupees cash award, added Khan.

Similarly, Mohibullah and Kaleemullah, who secured second and third position respectively in Peshawar Board, hail from a humble background. The parents of the two brilliant students are worried about arranging money for their further studies. They deserve the help and support of the provincial government to continue their studies and secure their future, said Arif Mehmood, a lecturer of Islamia College Peshawar.

The district nazim Peshawar, Ghulam Ali in a recent ceremony at his office, gave cash awards of Rs5,000, Rs3,000 and Rs2,000 to the position holders. Now, who on earth will tell the worthy nazim and politicians that few thousands rupees is nothing as the poor students require sustained financing for their educational needs in this record expensive age, said a teacher of government college Peshawar. The parents of these intelligent students have appealed to the NWFP government and the NGO sector to finance them in their future studies as they had meagre resources. The News
