Quaid-e-Azam’s alma mater celebrates 128th foundation day
Karachi : September 02: The students of Sindh Madressatul Islam (SMI) Boys and Girls Model Schools captivated the audience on Saturday with their performance on tableaus, national songs, Sindhi folk songs, skits and speeches on the second day of the 128th Foundation Day celebrations of the SMI University.
The event was chaired by Vice Chancellor SMI University Dr Mohammad Ali Shaikh.
The students revisited the objectives of the foundation of SMI, thoughts and struggle of SMI’s prominent student Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the vision of the founder of SMI Khan Bahadur Hassanally Effendi as well as national harmony.
They also traced the successful journey of SMI spread over 128 years. A group of SMI Girls Model School presented a wonderful tableau on Sindhi folk song “Sindh Muhinji Amar, Sindhi Muhinji Jind Jan” that depicted the beauty of Sindhi culture.
Another tableau based on national song “Ham Maaen, Ham Bahenen, Ham Betyan, Qoamoon Ki izat Ham Se He” was presented by a group of girl students who left everlasting imprints on the minds of the audience.
Appreciating the performance of the students, VC SMI University Dr Mohammad Ali Shaikh said that the students beautifully presented colourful culture of the land and the struggle of the SMI.
“Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, Baba Bulleh Shah, Rehman Baba and Mast Tawkali are true representatives of our civilization. This is why our civilization provides liberty to act, right to speech and love to humanity to every citizen.
“Our civilization is not conservative, but it is a symbol of love and respect to all people. It preaches love with humanity without any discrimination based on language and ethnicity.
All the identities of Pakistani citizens like Sindhi, Punjabi, Pakhtun, Baloch and other ethnic groups constitute integral part of the Pakistani nation,” he added.
Talking about the SMI, Dr Shaikh mentioned that it was the school where Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah received his early education.
“Mohammad Ali Jinnah belonged to a lower middle class family and his father was living in a two-room apartment in Wazir Mansion along with his wife and seven children,” he said, adding, Quaid-e-Azam worked hard and became the founder of a new state – Pakistan.
Dr Shaikh said that Quaid-e-Azam set his own reference, as his parents had not left any asset for him and exhorted upon the students of SMI Model Schools and University to set their own references by working hard in life. Dr Shaikh said that when he had joined the SMI as its principal in 1994, it was in a highly deplorable condition and even there was no water cooler for students. The news.
