Introduction

The Department of Pharmacy was established at Khawaja Farid Campus in 1990. The Department admitted its first group of twenty students in 1991. These seats were then raised to 59 in 2000. The Department has taken a big advance since its birth towards becoming a well-reputed pharmaceutical training center at National level. Thirteen batches have been graduated up till now. The Department has also started evening classes for B.Pharmacy degree in 2000 with a total number of 42 students.
The B.Pharmacy degree program comprised of four years was upgraded to five year degree program with the name of Pharm.D (Doctor of Pharmacy) in 2003. The Pharm. D, Degree mainly consists of four disciplines, which are Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology and Pharmacognosy. Practical and research laboratories for each major subjects are well established. The laboratories of Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Pharmacognosy have also been established. Besides, the Industrial laboratory is a distinction of this Department.
The Department aims to attain students with high values of knowledge and education through meticulous class work, practical work in laboratories and apprenticeship training. The Pharmacognosy plant collection tour in second professional is a part of students awareness regarding the identification and cultivation of various plants of medicinal value. The industrial tour in fourth professional helps the students to understand and comprehend technical manufacturing stages in production and quality control. The Department has collaboration with Quaid-e-Azam Medical College of Bahawalpur and other Departments of the University. The Department has also started M.Phil. degree program in the subject of Pharmaceutics in the year 2002. The University Library at Khawaja Farid Campus has an adequate collection of latest text books and reference books on various fields of Pharmacy. It receives regularly a number of National as well as International pharmaceutical and Medical Journals and other periodicals to meet the intellectual requirements of the teachers and students.
Gold Medal is being awarded to a students getting first position on the basis of aggregated marks obtained by him/her in First to Final Professional Pharm.D, exams. In addition there are various financial support from HEC for needy & meritorious students.

Eligibility for Admission to Pharm. D. degree course

Only those candidates shall be eligible for admission to Pharm. D. degree course who:
have passed F.Sc. Pre-medical or equivalent examination in at least second division. The candidates seeking admission on the basis of B.Sc. degree must have passed F.Sc. with pre-medical and B.Sc. or equivalent examination in at least second division from any recognized University with any one of the following subjects in addition to Chemistry:-
a. Botany b. Zoology c. Biology d. Pharmacology e. Microbiology
The merit of any applicant, who has passed an examination other than F.Sc./B.Sc. or the total marks are different from total marks prescribed in the Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education or Islamia University, Bahawalpur shall be determined by making a proportionate conversion to the total marks at F.Sc./B.Sc. level of the Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education or of this University.
