Medical students to be sent to flood-hit areas
Lahore:September 12:ON the instruction of Punjab Chief Minister, the 4th-year MBBS students of medical colleges will be sent in groups to the flood-hit areas if their services are required to help the medical teams in the provision of treatment facilities to the flood affectees. These students will return to their respective colleges in the evening.
This was stated by Advisor to CM on Health Kh. Salman Rafique while presiding over a meeting of the Principals of Medical Colleges of Lahore, according to a handout on Thursday. Principal Postgraduate Medical Institute Prof. Dr. Anjum Habib Vohra, Principal Services Institute of Medical Sciences Prof. Dr. Hamid Butt, Prof. Dr. Manzoor of the Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Administrator Shaikh Zayed Hospital Dr. Akbar Husain and Medical Superintendent Jinnah Hospital Dr. Abdul Rauf attended the meeting. Additional Secretary Health (Development) Ghulam Farid and Chief Planning Officer Abdul Haq were also present.

 

Kh. Salman Rafique directed principals to register the 4th-year boy and girl students of their colleges as volunteers. The concerned medical college will provide transport facility to these students.

 

Additional Secretary Health informed the meeting that the District Coordination Officers of the affected areas were in constant contact with EDOs Health, and medical volunteers will be sent to the flood-hit areas if needed.

 

He asked principals to register volunteers and send their list to the Health Department so that their services could be availed at the time of need.

 

UVAS sends teams to flood-hit areas: University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) on Thursday sent three relief teams, comprising Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) students and teachers, to flood-hit areas of Sialkot, Gujranwala and Hafizabad.

 

The UVAS flood-relief teams will treat and vaccinate the livestock affected by floods besides rescuing efforts in the affected areas.

 

Before the departure of UVAS relief teams, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and Secretary Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab Nasim Sadiq counselled students about the SOPs of flood relief and rescue efforts.

 

The Vice-Chancellor advised students to face the hardships of flooded areas with patience and help the flood-hit farmers and livestock with their maximum capacities and set an example of teamwork.
Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary Livestock urged students to participate in the flood relief efforts with devotion and dedication. He said UVAS was a supreme institution which had always played a vital role whenever and wherever its efforts needed. He advised students not only to provide vaccines, disease-control spray and medicines for the livestock, but also educate farmers about the care and management of animals during the flood conditions.The news.
