Islami Jamiat Talaba activists attack PU Teacher
Lahore:October 18:OVER a dozen activists of Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) on Friday attacked car of Ayesha Hakeem, a female faculty member of Punjab University’s Institute of Communication Studies (ICS) and daughter-in-law of former PU Registrar Prof Dr Muhammad Amin Athar at 7:45am near hostel number 14 when she was on the way to drop her husband Awais at his office.
According to PU spokesman, over a dozen IJT activists who were already ambushing near the exit gate of the hostel forcibly stopped their car and asked them to come out by hurling life threats. On not doing so, the IJT activists tried to open the doors of the car which were locked, on which they attacked the car with hockey and clubs. The front screen, side door and several other parts of the car were damaged. However, the boarders managed to flee the car while three IJT activists chased them on a motorcycle.
It is pertinent to mention here that Dr Muhammad Amin Athar has recently left the charge of university registrar and he has also chaired various disciplinary committees.
Meanwhile, in a press release, PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has strongly condemned the attack by the IJT activists. He said it felt that Jamiat in Punjab University had become irredeemable. He said IJT members instead of following the instructions of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), had adopted the way of torture. He summoned emergency meeting of heads of all departments on Monday at 11am at Al Raazi Hall.
Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of faculty members of PU-ICS presided over by its in charge Dr Noshina Saleem passed a unanimous resolution condemning attack on the car of Ayesha Hakeem. The meeting demanded the Inspector General Punjab Police and CCPO Lahore to immediately take notice of the incident and take stern action against the culprits involved in the attack. The news.
