Rs75,000 interest-free loan each for 4,000 youths
Lahore:14 June:Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday the Punjab government had fixed a target of making 2m youths skilful during the next three years and it would be achieved at every cost.
He expressed these views while addressing an inaugural ceremony of a two-day skills expo and job fair 2015, arranged by Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority at Lahore International Expo Centre. He said, “We will welcome the cooperation of the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and other monetary institutions in these programmes. If the institutions did not support us, we will provide resources for making the youth skilful for the bright future of Pakistan and I am ready to provide billions of rupees for it.”
Shahbaz Sharif while announcing interest-free loans of Rs75,000 each to 4,000 skilled youths said the loans would be distributed among skilled youths completing training with the collaboration of TEVTA and Akhuwat for which Rs 500m have been allocated. He said that the aim of the excellent programme was to provide honourable jobs to skilful youths. “The provision of resources for empowering youths through technical training is a useful investment and happy news of a bright future. Development goals cannot be achieved without empowering youths comprising 60 percent of the population. Tevta is playing an important role in preparing skilled manpower according to market needs and promotion of technical education. There will be revolution of skill development due to efforts of the institution,” he added.
Shahbaz Sharif said that the skills expo was an excellent step and it was the first and unique programme of its kind in the last seven years. He congratulated Minister for Industry, Chairman Tevta, Secretary Industry, Board of Governors of Tevta, trainers, master trainers and male and female students for holding the exhibition. He said that institutions like Tevta, PVTC and Skill Development Company are playing effective role in preparing skilled manpower and their programmes fully reflected the vision of the Punjab government. The chief minister said the Punjab government was paying special attention to skill development and the exhibition would be helpful in preparing skilled manpower. He said that instead of spending money on buildings, equipping male and female students with technical education was the vision of the Punjab government and it was the only way to take Pakistan forward. He said that image of the country would improve by making the youth skilled in agriculture, industry and other sectors according to market demands. He said it was an impression in the past that a big population increased problems, hindered development, and although over 60 percent population of the country comprising youths was a big challenge, yet we have to change the challenge into opportunity and march forward by accepting the challenge.
He said that youths would be empowered through vocational training programmes and Pakistan would be put on the road to progress and prosperity. He said that there has been no coordinated contact of industry, agriculture and other sectors of economic development with the vocational training institutions in the history of the country and all matters had been dealt individually due to which skilled force could not be prepared according to market requirements.
Terming criticism by opponents of public welfare projects unjustified, the chief minister said the metro bus projects were for the poor and the common man. He said if bullet-proof vehicles were imported for the elite, it was the right but if resources were spent on the welfare of the common man, it was criticised.
Addressing the function, Provincial Finance Minister Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha said the provision of fruits of development and making Punjab prosperous was the mission of the Punjab government and every possible effort would be made for its accomplishment. The news.
