BA/BSc Annual Exam 2015 Ceremony of position holder students
Lahore: 29 August : Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has said that Pakistan’s future is linked with education and the government will lay the foundation stone of country’s first ever ‘Knowledge Park’ in February next year to promote research and development.Education Minister Rana Mashhood was addressing a ceremony in the honour of position holder students of BA/BSc Annual Examination 2015 at Punjab University’s Al Raazi Hall on Friday.Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Controller Examinations Prof Dr Shahid Munir, senior faculty members, position holder students including Ayesha Khan, Hafsa, Fasahat Fatima, Ramla Tayyab, Azhar Ali, Ume Kalsoom, their parents and teachers were present on the occasion.Addressing the ceremony, Mashhood said that the purpose of Knowledge Park was to bridge the gap between academia and industry so that the industry could benefit from the research work being carried out in the universities.He said that Pakistan’s youth was full of talent and Pakistanis were playing an important role in leading scientific and research institutions of the world. He added that country’s development would strengthen the ummah. He said that India was supporting terrorists to destabilise Pakistan.
On the occasion, Dr Mujahid Kamran said that Pakistan was the only nuclear power of the Islamic world having a strong army. He said that the average spending of the world on education was 5 percent of GDP while Pakistan was spending less than 2 percent on education. He further said that the United States with a GDP of $17 trillion was spending from $850 billion to $1000 billion on education as well as $340 billion to $510 billion on research and development. Pakistan’s total GDP was around $250 billion and it was spending around 0.2 percent of the GDP on R&D, he added.Giving details of the result, Dr Shahid said that out of 121,658 candidates, the result of only 20 candidates was late. He said that earlier a candidate, who had failed in one subject, was allowed to appear in supplementary examinations and now a candidate, who had failed in two subjects, would be allowed to appear in the supplementary examinations.
He further said that from the next year BA/BSc examinations would be held in parts and BA/BSc Part 1 and II annual examination would be held. Later, degrees, shields and cash prizes of Rs 100,000, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 were separately distributed among 1st, 2nd and 3rd position holders of BA/BSc examinations.Daily Times.
