Edu Dept officials visit Government College for Women Gulberg (GCW) over student expulsion

Lahore: Education Department officials visited the Gulberg Government College for Women (GCW) on Thursday, and took statements of college staff regarding the expulsion of a student after her alleged misconduct.

The officials were holding a preliminary inquiry into the expulsion of Mehreen Anwer, who was kicked out from the college on Wednesday after the college accused her of 'extreme misconduct'. She, along with her mother and sister, allegedly thrashed GCW Physics Department teacher Kauser Javed after she had beaten Mehreen for bringing her cell phone to the college.

The GCW administration expelled Mehreen from the college following an inquiry. Education Executive District Officer (EDO) Muhammad Saeed visited the college. The EDO said he had taken versions of the college administration and would call Mehreen in his office to record her statement. Education Department official Naz Rizvi also took the administration's version. The GCW administration kept mum about the incident on Thursday and reporters were restrained from questioning college staff. Later, it issued a statement about its version of the incident wherein it protested against newspapers for publishing "wrong versions" from Mehreen and her mother. Daily Times
