Two new medical Varsities to be set up: CM
Lahore:November 10:On the orders of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, two medical universities in Rawalpindi and Multan will be set up very soon. These universities will promote medical education and strengthen and develop public health sector, nursing and allied health sciences.
It was announced by Adviser to chief minister on Health Kh Salman Rafique while chairing a meeting on Wednesday. Principals of Rawalpindi Medical College and Nishtar Medical College gave presentations on the project of setting up medical universities in their respective districts. It was informed that in Sindh there are eight medical universities in public sector whereas in Punjab there are only three medical universities in public sector while population of the province has reached about 120 million.

Secretary Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah revealed that resources, land and hospitals are available in the districts for setting up medical universities and the government would provide all additional resources.

He constituted a four-member committee headed by KEMU VC Prof Faisal Masood for preparing feasibility report and recommendations within a week.

Kh Salman Rafique said promotion of medical education and strengthening of health sector is the passion of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and he is ready to provide all out resources for setting up the medical universities. He recalled that a few years back, five medical colleges were established in different districts of Punjab on the direction of the CM.

Cardiac dept: The Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairman Muzammil Hussain on Wednesday visited Wapda Teaching Hospital Complex, Lahore and witnessed the health care facilities being provided there to the Wapda as well as other power sector employees and their families.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman said that Wapda had a good health care system all over the country.

Keeping in view significance of the medical facilities for welfare of the employees, the incumbent Wapda management had decided to improve its existing health care system.

He directed the authorities concerned to plan upgrade of Cardiac Department of the hospital to an institute for quality health care. He also appreciated state-of-the-art Burn Unit at the hospital. 

He inquired after the patients there. The existing health care system of Wapda comprises a 250-bed Wapda Teaching Hospital, nine 50-bed hospitals, two 20-bed hospitals, 13 fortified dispensaries and 16 basic dispensaries across the country to serve the employees of Wapda  and power sector companies.The news.
