Efforts on to save future of Islamia College students

Karachi: The Education Department of Sindh is making efforts to save the future of thousands of students of the Islamia College Complex Karachi, and in this regard a constitutional petition had already been filed in the Sindh High Court (SHC) against the order of the rent controller regarding vacating the complex building, said Director General Colleges Sindh Prof. Dr Rafique Ahmed Siddiqui.

Talking to PPI on Saturday, he said the SHC had admitted their petition and till its decision, the order of the lower court could not be implemented. He was of the view that under these circumstances the Islamic Education Trust could not get the complex building vacated. He hoped that the matter would be resolved in the larger interest of students. He said if the verdict of the SHC went against the education department, they would appeal in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Prof Siddiqui said the government would safeguard the interests of students and teachers at all costs. He said they were working to improve the conditions of colleges in Sindh province. He said there 243 colleges in the province: 123 in Karachi, 57 in Hyderabad, 16 in Mirpurkhas, 20 in Larkana and 31 in the Sukkur division. He said they were focusing to solve the problems of these colleges and provide them with required facilities to further improve the standard of education in the province. Ppi
