Academic staff body condemns clash at PU
Lahore:March 24:Two days after clash among students, Punjab University Academic Staff Association (PUASA) has finally come forward to condemn the incident.
A group of teachers belonging to Teachers Front (TF) had expressed serious concerns over ‘silence’ of the incumbent PUASA leadership. “When there is a need that the university teachers must come forward and play a role to help establish peace and harmony on the camps. At this crucial time ASA is nowhere in the scene,” TF had observed in its press statement issued on Wednesday. However, on Thursday, the PUASA issued a statement and strongly condemned the recent clash between two student groups. It also requested the PU administration that all internal and external elements involved in this incident should be exposed as they had seriously damaged academic and research activities in the university.

“The association also demands that such elements should be punished severely so that such incidents could not be repeated in future. The association is also supporting the positive steps taken by Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir and university administration to improve the prevailing situation in the university,” reads the ASA statement.

It is pertinent to mention here that a clash between Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) and Pashtun students had left over a dozen members on both sides injured. As the situation remained tense on Wednesday, the PU administration suspended its bus service for students and there were no proper academic activities on campus either. The news.
