BISE Peshawar to award position holder in separate ceremony
PESHAWAR:19 August: The management of a private school has accused the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar of depriving its student of a distinctive position by awarding 3rd position to a girl having fewer marks than him.
The board authorities have already explained its position on the issue and announced to award the 3rd position and prize to the student concerned in a separate ceremony arranged in his honour.
Speaking at a news conference here on Friday, Usmania Children Academy Principal Maulana Hussain Ahmad said that a student of his academy Rafiullah Khan secured 914 marks in Humanities Group in the Higher Secondary School Certificate examination.
Demanding action against the board authorities, he said that a girl student of Jinnah College for Women Hafiza Mehreen with 909 marks was declared third.
When contacted, BISE Peshawar Chairman Dr Fazlur Rahman said that the student was true, but the principal was wrongly presenting the issue.
He said that Rafiullah Khan had passed his first year examination from Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Mardan and had migrated to the Peshawar Board for the second year.
He appeared as private candidate in the second year.
He said that as per the set rules of the board his first year Detailed Marks Certificate had been sent to Mardan board for verification.
“The verified DMC couldn’t be received till declaration of the results due to which his results were withheld,” the chairman board pointed out.
Later, when his verified DMC was received and his result was declared, the board authorities tendered apology to the student and promised him that he would be declared as third position holder and all the awards of the positions would be given to him and a separate function would be arranged in his honour, he said.
Dr Fazlur Rahman said that even after the declaration of his result, student Rafiullah Khan had doubts about his results and he wanted his papers to be rechecked.
“I asked him to check all his papers himself for which he was not even charged the fee. He checked his papers himself and was satisfied with it,” the chairman board said.
According to a senior academician the board authorities have done the student a great favour by showing him his papers.
He said that even the board officials had the powers and authority to reduce his marks to overcome the issue.
“By accepting the error and apologizing to the student, the authorities have shown affection to the student after which there was no need to level allegations,” he maintained.The news.
