LGH makes dengue courses mandatory for students, doctors
LAHORE:16 september: Ameer Uddin Medical College Principal Prof Dr Ghiasun Nabi Tayyab has said that dengue courses will be mandatory for medical students and newly appointed doctors, nurses and paramedical staff of the Lahore General Hospital so that everyone working at LGH has proper knowledge regarding treatment of dengue patients.
He stated this while addressing an awareness seminar on dengue held on Thursday at the Punjab Institute of Neuro Sciences. Prof Imran Hassan Khan, Prof Agha Shabir Ali, Dr Maliha Hameed and Dr Kashif Aziz also addressed the participants of the seminar. LGH Medical Superintendent Dr Ghulam Sabir, doctors and medical students in a large number attended the seminar.
In his address, Prof Dr Ghiasun Nabi Tayyab said that people could save themselves from many diseases by maintaining proper cleanliness, and doctors should play their role in spreading awareness among the masses in this regard. He called upon the print, electronic and social media to inform the masses about the ways and means to ensure cleanliness so that dengue could be avoided through adopting precautionary measures.
The PGMI principal said that thanks to in-time steps of the Punjab government, thousands of lives had been saved from dengue fever. He said that the provincial government also helped other provinces in prevention and cure of the disease. He assured that set patterns of the government were being followed at the Lahore General Hospital and from 2012 to 2016 all patients recovered from dengue, which was a great success.
He said that the hospital's doctors and nurses were fully capable of handling the disease, which had been acknowledged by international experts as well. He lauded the holding of such seminars at the Post Graduate Medical Institute, Ameer Uddin Medical College and Lahore General Hospital. He said that such gatherings proved to be refresher courses for doctors and medical staff. He expressed determination that like the past, the Lahore General Hospital would work in the frontline to curb dengue and be an active part of the campaign of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif against dengue.
While addressing the seminar, medical experts said that every fever does not mean that it was dengue, and people should avoid going to quacks for treatment. They also urged people not to go for home remedies, and should immediately contact the hospital where free and high quality treatment was available for dengue patients. They also called upon the attendants of dengue patients to inform doctors about the full history of their patients so that correct diagnosis could be made and immediate treatment be started.
