Hundreds of Haripur school teachers not paid for 3 months
HARIPUR:October 16:Hundreds of teachers, working in the computer labs of government schools in Haripur, have not been paid for the past three months.

Moreover, apparent negligence of the project director means that contracts of these teachers have yet to be renewed.

The situation has made it difficult for many teachers to run their households, with some teachers saying they were on the verge of starvation.

The teachers said that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Elementary and Secondary Education Department had introduced a project to establish over 500 IT labs in higher and secondary schools across the province. For this, over 1,000 computer teachers and lab in-charges were hired on a year-long contract with a gross salary of Rs40,000 per month.

However, these teachers have not been paid for the past three months while their contracts have yet to be renewed even though they have been fulfilling their duties.

Not only are the employees concerned about their salary, they are also unsure of their job status.

The teachers, who did not wish to be named owing to fear of retribution, told Roznama Express that they have approached Project Director Salahuddin several times to resolve their issues but he has failed to offer them a satisfactory or consistent answer over the issue.Published in The Express Tribune,
