TMUC holds start-up idea pitching competition for youth
Islamabad :November 22: The two-day celebrations of the Millennium Global Entrepreneurship Week (MGEW) 2017, an undertaking to commemorate start-up innovators and job creators, commenced with a Start-up Idea Competition at The Millennium University College (TMUC), H-11/4, here, says a press release.
The fifth MGEW at TMUC Islamabad is being organised in collaboration with Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) Pakistan, Kauffman Foundation, The Indus Entrepreneurs Islamabad, and World Wildlife Fund on the theme ‘Entrepreneurship- Passion, Creativity and Connectivity.’
This year TMUC collaborates with the Hult Prize, world’s foremost platform for the creation and launch of for-good, for-profit start-ups, to organise a start-up Idea Pitching Competition wherein youth from TMUC Karachi, Lahore, Bahria Spring & nationwide campuses gathered at The Millennium University College Islamabad to present their innovative and creative ideas.
Student teams were faced with the challenge not to invent the energy systems of the future but to deploy them at scale by listening closely to customer needs, designing scalable business models, and executing plans that are capable of transforming the lives of 10 million people by 2025 through the use of energy.
The Competition comprised a preliminary round wherefrom 06 out of 16 participating teams qualified for the final round. The preliminary round judges comprised Dr. Ali Imtiaz International Consultant (PHD Industrial Engineering), Muhammad Bin Masood (Head of Business Operations at DEMO Enterprises), Azfar Kashif (Co-founder & CEO of Eventrone), Yasir Ahmed (Manager Project Evaluation at National ICT R&D Fund), Ahad Nazir (winner Pakistan Start-up Cup 2016).
The Hult Prize Business Idea Competition is won by The Team Recycled Charge who pitched their Idea on harnessing waste energy through recycling. The judges for the final round included Noman Azhar (Country Head- Branchless Banking JS Bank), Ms. Samar Hassan (founder Epiphany Launchpad), Noshad Khalid Minhas (Head of Cash Management and Projects Silk Bank), Hassan Zulfiqar (Co-Director of Start Up Grind), Mustafa Minhas (Director Admin & Finance at Isra University), Ahad Wazir (associate at Team-up).
This winning team shall now move onto the Hult Prize Regional contests happening in 15 cities around the world including, Boston, San Francisco, London, Shanghai, Dubai & other destinations. The event was sponsored by TopCity-1 one of Pakistan’s largest real estate investment firm I Pakistan, and Paragon City PVT Ltd, Amish Marbles and Saad Zia photography.
Congratulating the TMUC management and students on their efforts to empower and engage students in entrepreneurial activities during MGEW the Guest of honour Chief Operating Officer TopCity-1 Sikander Khan graciously offered financial support to the winning teams. The ceremony ended with the TMUC Dean of Academics Safia Farooqi awarding shields of appreciation to the chief guest, judges and participants of the event.The news.
