Seminar on violence against women held at FJWU
Rawalpindi :23 November:Women Research Centre (WRRC) organised a lecture titled: ‘Women Empowerment and Violence against Women: Issues and Challenges’ to commemorate 16 days of Activism against Gender based violence.
Gender-based violence is a human rights violation and a serious obstacle to women’s progress in all areas of life including health, education, work and participation in society was the base of seminar.
Guest speaker of the seminar was Huma Akhtar Chughtai (Director Programmes, Federal Judicial Academy).She talked about the equality and empowerment of women. We have to value women’s rights in every country,” The world has to give “a sense to the girl child that she is as important as her brothers. “She added. While discussing the issues and challenges, Huma Akhtar said that we need to change our behaviours against women, and need to implement a lot of educational programs that teach people about equality.
Equality is the key of social change. Chief Guest of the seminar Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Women University, Prof Dr. Samina Amin Qadir said that violence against women is not just a woman’s issue but primarily a political, social, economic and cultural issue that concerns men as well. We must address the roots of this violence by eradicating discrimination and changing the mindsets that perpetuate it.
