AIOU notifies free matric education for Balochistan, FATA
Islamabad:February 6: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has officially notified provision of free Matric education to the students of Balochistan and Federally Administrated Tribal Area (FATA) from this month, with start of new admissions (spring 2018 semester).

According to the University’s Registrars Department on Monday, the formal decision to this effect was taken by the University’s Executive Council at its 106th meeting on the recommendation of their Finance Committee.

The desiring students can approach the University’s regional offices in their respective regions to avail the facility. The university has started the admissions from this week. This is first-time in the history of AIOU that free education at the secondary-level has been made available for marginalized or less-developed areas of the country.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Shahid Siddiqui said that the step is a special gesture towards the students of less-developed and far-flung regions. The University has set aside its financial gains in its efforts of providing educational facilities to the students of Balochistan and FATA.

The University is already providing free education to neglected sections of the society that includes disabled persons, prisoners, drop-out girls and transgender group. Now they are taking care of economically less-privileged areas of the country, by making this basic education free for the students of Balochistan and FATA, the VC said.

They had already waived off tuition fee for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of the tribal areas, in wake of counter-terrorism operation, undertaken by the Pakistan army. The University is also providing scholarships to the deserving students to ensure that nobody should be left without education because of financial constraints.

Pak Post: Pakistan Post has launched a new delivery service ‘Same Day Delivery’ for delivering goods in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on the same day.

According to official sources, the people of federal capital and adjoining areas would be able to send their goods up to 20 kg through this service. The service will benefit business community. Pakistan Post has established especial desks at designated post offices of twin cities to facilitate clients.

The clients will be informed through SMS about the latest status their mail, parcels and gifts sent to their dear ones on the same day of the booking. The people can acquire the Same Day Service by 11:30 daily. The charges included Rs150 on first 500 gram weight and then Rs50 on each and every additional 500 gram weight parcel.

The services are available at different designated post offices of Islamabad including Islamabad GPO, F-7 Post Mall, G-5 Foreign Service, sectors G-10, I-10/4, I-8/4, and Markiz of G-9, F-10, F-6, F-8, G-7, G-8, I-9 and the post office situated at Prime Minister office.

The service is also available at Rawalpindi GPO, Katcheri, Urdu Bazar, West ridge, Lal Kurti, Gawalmandi, Bahria Town phase 8, 4 and post office of Satellite town, Rawalpindi. Kashmir Solidarity Day: Artists paid tributes to the Kashmiri martyrs to show solidarity with Kashmiri brothers in a cultural program arranged by Pakistan National Council of the Arts in collaboration with the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Biltistan here at National Art Gallery on Monday.

The event comprised of puppet show, exhibition of photography, stage play and cultural show which aimed to mark the ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day.’ The special puppet show based on the Kashmiri struggle for independence was attended by a large number of students with their parents.

The exhibition of photographs reflecting the Indian brutality in held Kashmir attracted a large number of visitors from the twin cities. The photographs are narration of the struggle of Kashmiri innocent people who are fighting for their independence and rights of self-determination.

A play ‘Laho Rang Kashmir’ written by Khalid Majid was part of Kashmir Day programme. The artists very skilfully and brilliantly exposed the Indian Strategy and suppression of the Kashmiri people.
The play gives hope to the Kashmiri freedom for struggle and tribute to the freedom fighters. The musical show comprised of Bano Rehmat, Raja Imran and Bakhtawar Paid Tribute to fredom fighters of Kashmir by presenting Kashmiri popular folk music and songs. The artists of the National Performing Art Group presented folk dances of Kashmir.The news.
