Annual prize distribution ceremony held at FG Postgraduate College
Rawalpindi:February 23: To commend the consistent efforts of students who excelled in academics and co-curricular activities during the 2017-2018, the annual prize distribution of FG Postgraduate College for Women, Kashmir Road was held in the Salma Masud Auditorium here on Thursday.

Professor Rana Arshad Qazi was the honourable chief guest on this occasion. The ceremony started with the recitation of the Quranic verses by Mehwish Shaheen. Hira Shafique presented ‘Naat’. College Anthem was presented by Nighat Younas, Hira Shafique, Marwa Sajjad, Rabbea Hanif.

Giving an introduction to the ceremony, the Head of English Department, Durr-e-Shahwar said that the prime aim of any sound educational institution is to develop an all-round personality of its students, focusing on their intellectual, Physical, moral and social development. Encouragement and rewards are an integral part of the process of learning, she added. Today’s ceremony was organized to reward the hard work, dedication and commitment of the position holders in academics and co-curricular activities for the year 2017-2018.

The chief guest Professor Rana Arshad Qazi distributed prizes, certificates and medals among the high achievers in academics and co-curricular activities. More than hundred certificates were given to the brilliant students for holding positions in College. Federal Board, Punjab University examinations.

Subject prizes were awarded to the highest scorers in different subjects at Intermediate and graduation level. High achievers of co-curricular activities received certificates for being declared ‘Best’ in their respective fields. An exceptionally brilliant student Amna Satti got three subject prizes in Political Science, Urdu Literature and Persian optional.

An equally talented student Bisma Zulfiquar received two prizes in Physics and Computer Science. Maham Sohail clinched two subject prizes in Zoology and Chemistry.

Mariyum Rauf received prizes in Maths and Statistics. At Intermediate level, Wajeeha Noor received 3 subject prizes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Zarmina Naz bagged 3 prizes in Persian, Physics. Education and Islamic Studies.

In Evening Group, Kainat Shaheen received 2 prizes in Maths and Physics. The subject prizes for Biology and Chemistry went to Farah Shabbir. Aleena Mustafa and Mariyam Shahid received prizes for securing 1st and 2nd positions in M.A. English (2016-18).

In M.A. Urdu Samina Ali, Hifsa Parveen and Iqra Batool stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The class positions at B.A/B.Sc. 2016-18 were granted to the following students:

1st positions: Marium Rauf Maths, Statistics, Physics / Economics/Maths/Physics/Chemistry;

2nd positions: Bisma Zulfiquar Maths, Statistics, Physics /Economics/Maths/Physics/Computer;

3rd positions: Iqra Zulfiquar Maths, Statistics, Physics/ Economics/Maths/Physics /Computer;

1st positions: Maham Sohail (Zoology, Botany, Chemistry and Psychology), 2nd Mobashra Tasneem (Zoology, Botany, Chemistry and Psychology) and 3rd Amna Rida (Zoology, Botany, Chemistry and Psychology);

1st position: Sidra Afzal (Humanities), 2nd Madiha Kousar (Humanities) and 3rd Irsa Zahid (Humanities).

The following students secured prizes for the best performance in their respective fields: Mehwish Shaheen (Qiraat), Marwa Sajid (Naat), Wajiha Shams (English Speaker), Faiza Babar (Urdu Speaker), Shumaila Jabeen (Home Economics), Marium Hina (Sports), Nighat Younas (Cultural Performance), Muniba Munir (Singing), Nayha Naveed (Computer Science) and Aimen Zafar (Dramatics).

In co-curricular activities talented students represented the college in the different colleges of twin cities and other cities and won laurels to their institution winning 56 individual prizes and 14 trophies.

FG Postgraduate College for Women was also the proud recipient of the Trophy for Best performance in Academics 2017-18 by the Directorate of FGEIs (C/G).

The chief guest and Principal, Prof. Rana Arshad Qazi, addressing the students said that “This institution aspires to deliver an education that not only opens new vistas of knowledge but also fosters a positive and an all round best outlook in students”.

Referring to a quote of Anatul Fánce she said “The whole art of teaching is the art of awakening the natural curiosity in young minds.” She highlighted the status of women in our society who are no longer a vulnerable group. They possess the qualities of resilience, patience, courage and perseverance. The need of time is to ‘Know Thyself’, she added. She advised the students to develop their self-identity through sincerity and commitment in order to “blossom further in the rich fertile land of our great motherland”. She congratulated the prize winners and their mothers on their meritorious performance. She also thanked faculty members and media personal for making this event a successful one.
