Federal Directorate of Education announced summer vacation
Islamabad :19 May: Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has announced the summer vacation for the students of public-private schools of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) from June 4, as per annual calendar of directorate.

While talking to APP here on Friday, he said that it is not possible for FDE to announce holidays during the current month of May as the educational activities had already been hurtled due to the ongoing renovation work in ICT schools under Prime Minister Education Reforms Programme.

The early announcement of vacation would also loss the student’s education; he said adding that due to continuously strike by the FDE teachers on daily wages for last one year, the educational activities had been disturbed.

The weather is not yet hot as it was expected, he said and added due to rain spells in last two days the mercury is normal so the vacation would be started in first week of June.

However, in the wake of current month of Ramazan, the teachers and parents as well as students have demanded of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) to announce summer vacation during the third week of May, 2018. They said that the Punjab government has already announced the summer vacation from May 24 for schools, colleges and other educational institutions in the province.

The Punjab government has taken the decision on the demand of the parents, teachers and students as they had made it clear that it would not be possible for them to attend the schools or to take their kids to and from schools in the Holy month of Ramazan and in expected hot conditions in next few days.

Calling the Punjab government’s decision a wise one, many parents, particularly, mothers have urged the FDE to announce the same for Islamabad’s schools too. Ramazan is a month of prayers and blessings and one tends to do minimum physical activity.

Continuing the school work will be an extra ordeal for many parents, teachers and even students who are observing fasting, said Nadia a mother of two school going children, Nasir and Adan.

My son Nasir is a student of Class VIII and he will be observing 'Roza' while Adan who is a grade-III student will not be fasting. My heart goes out for my son. How will he manage during the Ramazan, said Nadia.

A teacher Malik Akram while talking to APP expressed his wonder at the FDE’s decision not to close the schools for summer vacation. Will one week make any difference, he asked. Does the FDE expect from teachers to take their classes and deliver lectures during the five days of sizzling heat, he asked.

Likewise if the students with 'Roza' (fasting) will be taking any interest in what is being taught, he asked. teacher education: The Higher Education Commission (HEC), Learning Innovation (LI) Division has conducted a two-day National Forum on Teacher Education in collaboration with National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (NACTE) with an aim to improve the professional grooming of teachers.

Dr Riaz-ul-Haq Tariq, chairperson, NACTE graced the occasion as chief guest while it was also attended by the around 35 participants including Deans, Directors and Chairpersons of public and private sector teacher education departments attended the forum apart from HEC and provincial school education authorities, a press release said on Friday.

The purpose of this forum was to address the prevailing issues of teacher education focusing on how to prepare quality teachers, conduct ideal weight-age of content and improve professional grooming.

The forum brought under consideration two prevailing issues including varying employment policies and practices across provinces and the models and pathways of teacher preparation. It observed that the question of teacher preparation in Pakistan is jeopardised at the grass root level by allowing any individual to become a teacher with the lowest level and quality of academic preparation and zero professional preparation.

Even the policy book regarding appointment in public schools is set aside to appoint untrained teachers claiming some short-term post-induction training as sufficient to become a teacher, speakers at the forum underlined.

They maintained that the said two issues lead to the third most important issue i.e. quality assurance of teacher education programmes. They expressed serious concern about the induction of untrained and non-professional teachers and stopping pre-service in Government Colleges for Elementary Teacher (GCETs) and Regional Institutes of Teacher Education (RITEs) by the provincial education departments.

The forum stressed the need for consensus among provincial educational authorities and experts with regard to establishment of pre-service teacher education and training mechanism. The closing ceremony was chaired by Dr Mehmood-ul-Hassan Butt, Consultant, HEC Dr Riaz-ul-Haq Tariq, Chairperson NACTE, Dr Irshad Farrukh, Sectary, NACTE and Fida Hussain, Director General, LI, HEC were also present on the occasion. The news.
