KU teachers warned of action if they don’t perform election duty
KARACHI:10 June: Sindh Election Commissioner Yusuf Khattak on Saturday warned that appropriate action would be taken against the teachers of Karachi University who had refused to perform election duties.
Mr Khattak was replying to reporters’ queries outside the provincial election commission’s office here on a recent statement by KU teachers who said they had not been performing duties during elections for the past 25 years.

Lately, the deputy commissioner of Karachi’s East district has asked the KU registrar to serve notices to its various academic and non-academic staff “who are not cooperating with district election commissioner in discharging their election duty”.

Mr Khattak said the KU teachers could not decide themselves not to perform their election duty.

“Action will be taken against those teachers who would not perform their [election] duty,” said the Sindh ECP chief without elaborating further.

He said a good number of nomination papers had been filed on 28 seats of the National Assembly and 90 seats of the provincial assembly across Sindh.

Besides, 52 forms had been filed on the seats reserved for individuals representing minority faiths.Published in Dawn, June 10th, 2018.
