UoP vacated hostel rooms from students and students organisations
PESHAWAR:11 July: The administration of University of Peshawar (UoP) got vacated hostel rooms from the students and office-bearers of various students organisations residing illegally at these hostels and sealed the rooms they had ‘occupied’ since long.

In a statement issued to the media here Tuesday, the university administration said that the varsity officials along with 150 cops carried out the action against the students and office-bearers of various students organisations living illegally in the UoP hostels.

It said that Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tariq Sohail and chief security officer UoP Colonel (r) Aziz Gul supervised the action.

Provost UoP Saifullah, chief proctor Nadeem Azam and director administration Gohar also assisted the police in the operation.

The release said the police recovered political and religious literature, stickers, loudspeakers, stamps and flags of various political parties, unauthorised air conditioners, heaters and several bottles of liquor from these occupied rooms.

It said the administration had sealed the rooms vacated from the students and unauthorised persons and cut power and water supply to these rooms.

It said that allotment of these rooms has also been canceled and these rooms would not be allotted till start of new semester.

Meanwhile, the student leaders and office-bearers of various student organisations rejected the allegations and said they the action was taken after they highlighted financial mismanagement in the varsity.

President of Muttahida Talaba Mahaz Bilal Buneri said the action was carried out after the administration increased the university fees which was opposed and resisted by the students.

The students leader said around 400 students were arrested in the action and several of them missed to attend their examination papers.

He said the UoP administration was trying to mislead the people about the actions, claiming there was no illegal student in the hostels.

Buneri said the administration had increased the tuition and other fees and alleged that funds meant for the varsity were being embezzled.

He alleged that low grad employees were appointed against senor positions and huge salary was being paid to the security officer.

Spokesperson for UoP Ali Imran rejected the allegations, saying the low grad officials were appointed against senior posts due to shortage of required staff.

He said that only 34 officers were appointed against the required 96 administrative offices at the varsity.

The spokesperson said the varsity accepted the students’ demands about tuition fees, saying the action in hostel was taken purely against outsiders residing in the hostels. The news.
