In Peshawar A tribute to Professor Jalil-ur-Rehman

PESHAWAR: Prof Jamil-ur-Rehman was born in a village Sirikot of Hazara district in a spiritual and political family. His parents wanted him to be a ‘healer’-doctor and not spiritual leader, but the definition of health is physical, mental, social and spiritual well being and not only absence of disease. As a doctor professor, Jamil-ur-Rehman combined all these when dealing with ailing human beings. His early education was in Hazara. He qualified as doctor from DOW Medical College, Karachi. Proceeded abroad, got his MS from USA and FRCS from UK. It was in UK that he got married to a Spanish lady Emma Francisca Casans. Dr Jamil had to undergo many medical treatments over the last few years because of his heart condition. His wife was always with him. If some one from a close family friends would ask her to visit them. She would say “ I want to be with Jamil all the time and in near the place where emergency medical facilities are always available”. This sort of facilities are rarely found in the land of pure. It is hoped that Dr Jamil’s qualified and well educated children will come back to serve their region in the capacity of medical doctors to keep the tradition of the family: Pysical andSpiritual healer. Prof Jamil in his work combined the art and science of medicines, politeness, communication with patients and relatives, ethical practice and easy accessibility at the time of emergency. Prof Jamil-ur-Rehman will not only be missed by his near and dear ones but also by his many students, patients and colleges. God bless you Prof Jamil-ur-Rehman, our prayers are with you. Amen.  F.P.
