M.Phil Islamic Studies
Introduction:
   
The Department of Islamic Law,Faculty of Arabic & Islamic Studies is offering M.Phil Islamic studies in five different specializations. This program was started in 1987. This is the most important & significant program offered by the faculty of Arabic & Islamic Studies AIOU. This program is reputed one of the best program in public sector universities of Pakistan. The graduates with M.Phil Islamic Studies degree from AIOU are serving on important academic & administrative post in the colleges & Universities of Pakistan as well as foreign countries. Each year hundreds of candidates are applying for admission and only those candidates are getting admission who compete in eligibility criteria, entry test and interview. The M.Phil students are required to complete specific course work & research work under the supervision of a qualified supervisor. This program required 2 to 5 year’s time for completion. The Faculty has the opportunity to hire the expertise of supervisors from almost all-Pakistani Public sector universities. The students are completing course work with qualified tutors. After the completion of course works each student is required to complete a research thesis under a qualified Ph.D supervisor appointed by the Board of Advance Studies & Research. M.Phil degree is awarded after the evaluation of the thesis by the experts and successfully defense of viva voce. This program is designed to carried out research in different fields of Islamic Studies so that new dimensions of understanding of Islam can be discovered. This program provides to the scholars opportunity of exercising independent critical judgement through the research skills for the service of Islamic & Muslim communities.
Admission Requirement:
   
M.A Islamic studies or equivalent in second division can apply for the admission in M.Phil. However, preference is given to those candidates who have passed all degrees with first division. A significant weightage is given to the research thesis written for M.A Islamic Studies. Expertise in Arabic language and Hifz-e-Quran is also considered extra qualification. Post-Secondary teaching experience in any recognized college/institutions is also given due weightage in admission criteria. Published research papers in approved research journals are also considered in admission criteria. The graduates of HEC’s approved Wafaq with the degree of Al Shahdat Al Almia can also apply for admission but they must have B.A from any recognized university & Intermediate and Metric from any recognized Secondary and Intermediate Board. GRE general type entry test/entry test. Interview
Selection Process:
   
The Admission in M.Phil Islamic Studies is offered in semester autumn each year. The admission is announced in national newspapers each year on 1st August & 15th August Prospectus can be obtained from Main Campus of AIOU, H-8 Islamabad or from all regional campuses. The applications are received in the department of Islamic Law, Faculty of Arabic & Islamic Studies Block No. 12, AIOU H-8, and Islamabad. The all applications are evaluated on the basis of Board of Advance Studies & Research (BASR’S) criteria. Short listed candidates are called for GRE Type entry test and interview. The admission is confirmed after the depositing of admission fee.
