A four-day first scientific spring, organised by the National Centre for Physics in Islamabad

Islamabad:A four-day first scientific spring, organised by the National Centre for Physics (NCP), started here Monday with an aim to bring together scientists, engineers, technologists and students amid growing challenges in the areas of immense development.

Foreign scientists from different universities of UK, China, Tashkent and Bangladesh are participating in the event, who will present their research papers and presentations related to different fields of Physics and Nano Sciences in order to share their experiences with the participants.

The scientists would deliberate over the core areas of Physics and its related fields like Accelerator Technology, Astrophysics, Cosmology, Condensed Matter Physics, High Energy Physics, Laser Physics, Nano Sciences, and Plasma Physics.

The scientific spring would also help disseminate knowledge and work at national level and unveil the facilities being provided at NCP. Speaking on the occasion, Director General NCP Dr Hamid Saleem said the non-availability of experts and limited defined academic manpower in the existing institutes are the main hurdles in enhancing academic development and promoting research culture in the country.

To become visible as a vibrant research oriented nation at the international level, Pakistan needs active, enthusiastic and professional young researchers, determined to develop NCP as a centre of excellence to move forward in this direction, he said.

Dr Hamid Saleem said that NCP is looking for experts in different areas of Physics and its related fields, and that is why they are promoting and encouraging collaborations between the local and foreign universities and research institutes to optimise the use of available resources.

He said NCP has developed the necessary infrastructure for workshops, conferences and other academic activities within its premises. Few laboratories have also been established including a 5MV Tandem Accelerator and High Energy Physics laboratories. We are very much focused on developing highly active research groups in different areas of Physics and also trying to take well known senior scientists on board, he added.

Dr Saleem urged the physicists and media to play their contributory role in the development and emergence of NCP as a respectable research institute in the world. Those who delivered lectures and presented research papers on the first day of the event included Dr Riazuddin, Dr Hassan A Shah, Dr Khursheed Hasnain, Dr Kashif Sabih, Dr Riaz Ahmad, Dr Falak Sher, Dr Zakaullah, Dr Arif Mumtaz, Dr Aneesa Qamar, Dr Sanam Shahid, Suneela Arif, Zeba Israr, and Qaiser Raza.

All of the speakers underlined the need for a genuine and effective collaboration between the governments, public and scientists around the world to explore some vital issues besides generating a suitable environment for further research. In order to do this and take steps to strengthen international collaboration, we must be well placed to face the growing challenges in the field of science and technology, they said.
