Baacha Khan Trust Educational Foundation sets up girls high school in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: After the establishment of 12 schools for boys, the Baacha Khan Trust Educational Foundation (BKTEF) opened the first high school for girls in the province here Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference here at the Press Club, BKTEF Project Director Javid Anwar said the girls school set up in Nauthia locality of Peshawar would cater to the needs of the students from Grade VI to X, studying both science and arts subjects, from the academic session of 2009.

According to the admission policy of the foundation, the poor students would be preferred for enrolment in the girls high school where free uniform and books would be provided to them, he added.

Functioning under Baacha Khan Trust, the Educational Foundation was established in March 2007, which has so far opened 12 schools in various districts of the province and tribal agencies.

The Baacha Khan schools, both for girls and boys, have been set up in Peshawar, Kohat, Dir Upper, Swabi, Charsadda, Mardan, Malakand, Karak and Hangu districts and Khyber Agency, whereas the network will also be spread to other parts of the province and Fata.

Javid Anwar said Baacha Khan Trust was established to set up model schools in each district, model college in each division and a university in the provincial metropolis to provide integrated quality education to the underserved communities in the province. The BKTEF has also established community education committees in each locality of its schools.

The foundation has also established a professional development academy where qualified and professional staff has been engaged in designing and imparting basic teaching training to the teachers and other staffers at these schools.

To a question, he said that as many as 1,650 students had been enrolled on the schools run under the Baacha Khan Trust whereas the foundation planned to provide quality education to 200,000 children by the year 2020. He said the BKTEF had developed working relations with the provincial government, the city district government, the British Council, the Haans Seidel Foundation, the Children Global Network Pakistan and the Provincial Institute of Teachers Education about different projects.
