KEMU Admin asked to take Action against YDA members
Lahore:August 18:The graduates and students of King Edward Medical University (KEMU) have alleged that certain elements within Young Doctors Association (YDA) of Mayo Hospital chapter are involved in hooliganism, extortion, financial corruption and violation of merit on the campus.
The KEMU/Mayo Hospital administration is scared of taking action against ‘rogue’ elements of YDA Mayo Hospital,” said KEMU graduates Dr Shehryar Niazi, Dr Mazhar Rafiq, Dr Gada-e-Hussain, Dr Fahim Mehr and others while speaking at a press conference at Boys Hostel of KEMU on Monday.
The KEMU graduates alleged that Dr Shoaib Niazi, Dr Naveed and Dr Abdul Rauf were leading a gang of hooligans under the umbrella of YDA Mayo Hospital, who were involved in harassment of senior professors, threatening and beating up doctors and students, selling of hostel rooms and paid seats to PG trainees in violation of merit. They said that YDA Mayo Hospital chapter’s senior vice president threatened and beaten up Dr Fahim Mehr and his brother for raising their voice against injustice on social media, adding an FIR had been registered in Qila Gujjar Singh in this regard. However, Gawalmandi police is reluctant to register another FIR against torturing of Dr Mazhar Rafique and a final-year student, Sardar Nauman Afzal, they alleged.
They condemned the university administration for not taking strict disciplinary action against YDA’s ‘rogue’ elements and denying justice to the victims by sending the matter to committees. They said the ‘rogue’ elements went scot free due to YDA’s backing while innocent victims of harassment and manhandling did not get justice. “We demand KEMU administration to take strict disciplinary action and rusticate these hooligans to uphold the prestige of the institution and the medical profession. We will not accept any apology in closed doors, when they harass professors and torture doctors and students in the open,” they added. They demanded the university administration to provide security to doctors on the premises to avoid such mishaps in future. The KEMU graduates, while claiming themselves to be part of YDA, Punjab, demanded of their leadership not to back these ‘rogue’ elements involved in threatening and torturing teachers and students and bringing a bad name to the doctors’ association and noble profession. They said a non-elected group has captured the YDA Mayo Hospital chapter, saying all office-bearers were selected rather than elected. They said elections for YDA Mayo Hospital chapter had not been held for two years and demanded immediate elections. The news.
