Khyber Medical College Teachers Association condemned attack on doctors at  Khyber Teaching Hospital.

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Medical College Teachers Association (KMCTA) Wednesday condemned the reported attack on doctors at eye OPD of Khyber Teaching Hospital.

A KMCTA statement said an armed man attacked the doctors and broke precious equipment. at an emergency meeting on , passed a unanimous resolution The doctors, at an emergency meeting, took exception to the security lapses by the hospital management and demanded installation of scanners at all entry points of the tertiary care hospital.

They complained that despite their hue and cry, no action was taken against the alleged culprit, who was reportedly the son of an influential government servant. The KMCTA also demanded enhanced security measures for protection of the doctors and other employees of the hospital.

To this end, the college teachers demanded of the hospital administration to hire services of well-trained security guards to forestall such untoward incidents. Another major demand by the KMCTA was separation of lower OPD at the hospital where the doctors would examine patients and would refer them to the professorial staff if required.

Allegations refuted: Meanwhile, the immediate family members of Ilyas, a student who was said to have thrashed the doctors, Wednesday termed the allegations as baseless, and appealed to the authorities concerned to probe the matter.

A statement by the brothers of Muhammad Ilyas said that Ilyas was a student of post-graduation at Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre, University of Peshawar. They said Ilyas never remained a student of any seminary, adding that growing a beard did not mean that the person would be a militant.

The brothers of the alleged attacker said the staff at ophthalmology ward severely beat and abused him. They said the eyesight of their brother had been damaged due to severe torture.

They said that despite the fact that the police concerned had lodged a first information report against the hospital staff, who allegedly thrashed Ilyas, no action had so far been taken against the staff.

They demanded the provincial health secretary, capital city police officer, and senior superintendent police (investigation) to delve into the matter and bring the violence perpetrators to justice..The news
