Lahore University of Management Sciences on Monday held a protest

LAHORE:STUDENTS of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) on Monday held a protest demonstration by blocking Defence Road over death of one of their fellows in a road accident which also left two others injured.

Early in the morning on Monday at Club Chowk, an over speeding SUV went out of control and hit road divider. It also pulled down a streetlight pole and fell upon a car after over turning. The car was carrying three LUMS students, Waheeb Alam, Sohaib and Abdul Aziz.

As a result, Waheeb died on the spot while the two fellows received minor injuries. Asad was driving the SUV while Danish and Bilal were sitting besides him. The police arrested Asad and Danish while Bilal fled. Asad and Danish also received injuries. According to the police, an FIR has been three nominated accused on the complaint of one of the injured student.

About 300 LUMS students reached the spot, Club Chowk, and staged a sit-in at the road blocking the traffic on its one side. They were carrying placards inscribed with demands for fair investigation, justice, impartiality and early arrest of the escapee and natural course of justice.

MPA Mian Naseer and police officers including Superintendent of Police (SP) Ghulam Azfar, ASP Sarfaraz Virk and DSP Multan Khan tried to disperse the students after holding dialogues with them but in vain.

The students were demanding arrest of Bilal and blood test report of the accused so that they could ensure that they were drunk. The protestors also demanded a copy of FIR and list of recovered items from the vehicle.

On the demands of the students, MNA Khawaja Saad Rafique reached the spot and assured the students of justice in the matter. He addressed the students after knowing about the details of the case and issued directions to the police. He also gave assurance that report of the blood test of the accused would be provided to them. He said all the accused involved in the matter would be brought to the book without any discrimination. The students following this announcement headed towards the campus and ended the protest.
