UVAS International Vulture Awareness Day
Lahore :September 07: UNIVERSITY of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) in collaboration with the WWF-Pakistan observed on Friday International Vulture Awareness Day to create awareness about the importance of vultures in our ecosystem.
According to a Press release, a documentary titled “Missing Vultures” and a seminar comprising talks of experts about ‘vulture crisis and vulture restoration activities in Pakistan’ were the main features of the day. Dean Faculty of Fisheries and Wildlife UVAS Dr Muhammad Akram chaired the seminar while Dr Sharif Mughal, Dr Masroor Illahi Babar, WWF-Pakistan Conservation Assistant Manager Hassan Ali, Coordinator Conservation Uzma Saeed, teachers and students attended the seminar. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Akram said welfare of human beings was deeply linked to nature and to the co-existence of a vast diversity of wild animals and plants. He said there was need for collective efforts to save all species, including vultures hovering over the brink of extinction. He said realising the importance of biodiversity the UVAS launched the first ever Department of Wildlife and Ecology in the country to have a grassroots approach to preserve biodiversity of Pakistan. WWF-Pakistan Conservation Assistant Manager Hassan Ali spoke about “vulture crisis” and WWF Conservation Coordinator Uzma Saeed about “vulture restoration” in Pakistan.
