Rawalpindi Medical College Symposium on ‘Urogynaecology
Rawalpindi:June 02:The Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC) has initiated a continued medical education programme for updating the knowledge and skill of medical professionals relating to Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Department of Urology & Renal Transplantation. This kind of training would help emerge a new specialty of Urogynaecology.
This was stated by Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC) Principal Professor Muhammad Umar while inaugurating 1st Symposium on Urogynaecology held at new teaching Block of RMC at Holy Family Hospital.
The event was arranged by Head of RMC Urology Department Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed with the collaboration of Professor Fehmida Shaheen, Head of RMC Obs/Gynae. The eminent professors, medical students, paramedics and nursing staff also attended the symposia.
During inaugural ceremony Professor Umar said that symposium on a very important subject would provide an endeavour of national standard which aimed to inform, promote and globalise outstanding technological innovation, knowledge and research. It will especially help the young doctors to make an early debut on the national stage and will also open the gateway and build a bridge between the Urologists and Gynaecologists of Pakistan by sharing their experiences in the developed world.
Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad said that organising joint academic activity has provided an opportunity to discuss and share the experiences with regard to complications of Gynae and Urology. He said the aim of Urogynaecology practice is to improve the care of patients with Urogynaecology problems in collaboration with other care providers. He said purpose of symposium is to take first step towards the development of specialty of Urogynaecology in the public sectors hospital so either urologist or gynaecologists have sufficient knowledge
nd expertise to deal these patients one and all for better outcome.
Professor Fehmida Shaheen presented state of the art lectures on different aspects of Urogynaecology starting from anatomy of pelvic support to the diagnosis and management of different urogenital problems.
Dr. Raheela Mohsin Rizvi, Prof. Musaddaq Khan, Prof. Shagufta Sial, Dr. Muhammad Anees Farooque, Dr. Faizan Ahmed, Dr. Shamim Mimtaz and other medical professionals presented papers on different aspects of Urogynaecology. They said that Urogynaecology is an upcoming subspecialty gaining interest in providing optimum care to women suffering from pelvic floor dysfunction and urogenital disorders.
They reviewed the physiological perspective of the functioning of urogenital sphincters, their innervations, urinary and fecal continence, changes with aging, childbirth and menopause. Brig. Dr. M Muazhar Hussain of Army Medical College, Rawalpindi, also spoke on the occasion.The news.
