Book reading giving way to culture of internet

ISLAMABAD : It is a common view that the culture of book reading is receding and the advent of internet and online learning is changing things more than ever. The digital age has affected every facet of life including the book reading culture and now the youngsters are more inclined towards e-learning material. With the arrival of internet and computer technology, the bond between the book and its readers has weakened. The habit of book reading looks like a thing of the past and CD, DVD, and Internet culture is becoming more and more popular. People have access to online reading material and they do not prefer to buy and read books. The trend of reading soft copies or e-books of printed books is gaining acceptability. Talking to APP, Principal IMCB F-8/4, Waheed-ud-Din said the recent progress in the field of computer technology has shifted the trend of book reading to internet searching. This has led to a decline in the number of visitors to the library. However, it is an established fact that the knowledge acquired through books is everlasting and the books cannot be replaced by computers at any stage, he said. There was a time when electricity was not available and people had to read books under streetlights or candle lights.APP
