Students Week starts at Agriculture University  Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi:The Student Week at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) started here Tuesday, says a press release.

Different competitions including software programming, video games, film documentary/photography, poster, flower arrangement, essay & story writing, Punjabi debate, sports (boys & girls), drama, aarfana kalaam and art exhibition as well as inter-university Qirat, Naat, bilingual declamation & solo performance (drama) will be held during Student Week.

The first day of the event commenced with the Software Programming Competition in which 12 students participated from different departments of the University. The purpose of the competition was to improve the programming skills, logical thinking and presenting skills of the students.

Addressing on the occasion as the chief guest, Dr Rauf-i-Azam, Director University Institute of Information Technology (UIIT), said the students, by involving themselves in such activities, ameliorate their skills and also expose themselves to an opportunity to interact with each other in a more affable manner.

The winners of the Software Programming Competition, which was judged by Zia-ul-Haq Farani, Nadeem Malik and Muhammad Altaf, included the names of Muhammad Shahzad and Haseeb of UIIT as the first and second position holders.

The second competition of the day was the Art Exhibition, displaying glass paintings, jewellery and gift boxes, handmade and dry leaf cards, traditional handicrafts, fabric paintings, calligraphic work, cartoons, sculptures, abstract art, posters and coin collection, in which 14 students participated, out of which Shumaila Noreen of Veterinary Sciences secured the first and Sidra Kiran of Women Division got the second position.

Dr Azra Khannum, Director Women Division, AAUR was the chief guest on the occasion, who appreciated the efforts of the students and hoped that the fertile minds of these young artists would produce innovative new items and techniques. She said that such type of competitions encourage the amateur artists to further develop their artistic skills and imagination.

The third event of the Student Week was the Video Games competition with an aim to provide leisure and also increase the mental capability of the students. It was a competition among the faculties on the virtual ground.

It may be recalled that the Directorate of Students Affairs of the University is organising the event that will continue till April 18.
