Introduction of Quaid-e-Azam Medical College, Pakistan.

In 1970, the Government of the Punjab decided to establish a new medical college in the province, in order to cater for the ever increasing demand of qualified doctors and to provide better health facilities to the people. As the fate would have, the historic city of Bahawalpur was chosen as the venue for this esteemed institution, which was named to commemorate the father of the nation. The seeds of this great institution were shown by the then Governor of the Punjab Lt. Gen (Retd) M.Atiq ur Rehman, when he formally laid down the foundation stone on the 2nd December, 1971 The QMC started its life in the building of the Government vocational Institute situated on Baghdad-ul-Jadeed road, with (Late) Professor Alamdar Hussain at the helm of affairs. The present site was chosen due to its close proximity to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital, with which it was attached for the clinical training of the students. This institution has now blossomed into a prestigious Institution and center of Excellence and is serving the nation by producing nearly 200 qualified doctors every year, for the service of the ailing humanity and the motherland. Initially, the successful graduates were conferred the degree of M.B.B.S. by the University of the Punjab till the session 1977-78, thereafter it has been affiliated to the Islamia University Bahawalpur.
