21228 candidates to appear in MBBS entry test In Lahore

LAHORE (APP): A total of 9.3 per cent candidates have applied against each 2263 vacant seats in all the medical colleges for admission to MBBS in the Punjab province. Vice Chancellor, University of Health Sciences (UHS) Punjab, Prof Malik Hussain Mubbasshar told APP here Tuesday that 21228 candidates will appear in the computerised multiple choice questions entry test against vacant seats in various medical colleges for admission to MBBS across the province. Giving the details,he said that 9.3 per cent candidates will contest against each vacant seats for admission to MBBS. The Punjab government in line with the policy of Chief Minister has allocated 296 reserved seats in all medical colleges and dental institutions in the province for different category of deserving candidates. He said that during the current academic year,disable candidates will get 19 seats while underdeveloped districts 49, FATA 7,Azad Jammu and Kashmir 26,Northern areas 25,foreign students under Pakistan technical assistance program 72,foreign students on self finance basis 32,reciprocal seats for candidates of other provinces 5 and goodwill seats for Baluchistan 20. All other 2008 vacant seats will be filled through open merit. In dental institutions,disabled 1,underdeveloped districts 12,FATA 3,Azad Jammu and Kashmir 3,Northern areas 5,foreign students under Pakistan technical assistance program 13 and foreign students on self finance basis 4. VC said that all reserved seats will also be filled on merit. UHS on the special directive of the Chief Minister Punjab has introduced "self scoring entrance test" for admission to all medical colleges across the province from current academic year to ensure 100 percent transparency, he added. Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive,UHS Prof Malik Hussain Mubbashar, recipient of two civil awards "Hilal-i- Imtiaz and Sitar-i-Imtiaz" said that at the end of entrance test,candidate will return the upper coloured sheet to the invigilation staff and retain the carbon sheet with him/her for self scoring. He said that same questions in different reshuffling pattern set in various five colour question papers will be asked to students to totally eliminate the chances of cheating.He said that the correct answer keys of all five colours of question papers will be displayed same day on varsity website which he added will help candidates to tally with their carbon answer sheets and calculate scores at their own. VCr said that there will be 220 multiple choice questions (mcqs) which includes 60 each from Physics and Chemistry,70 from Biology and 30 from English subjects and total duration of the test will be 150 minutes.Each correct answer will carry 5 marks,one mark will be deducted for each wrong answer and 440 are minimum pass marks. He said that again first time,to facilitate the candidates, number of centres have been increased to 12 near their homes have been set up across the province which includes DG Khan,Bahawalpur,Rahim Yar Khan, Multan, Sahiwal, Lahore,Faisalabad, Sargodha,Gujranwala, Gujrat, Rawalpindi and Wah.
