Shifting of Saidu Medical College students to Khyber Medical College demanded

PESHAWAR: The students of Saidu Medical College (SMC) have appealed to the government to save their education year from ruining by accommodating them at Khyber Medical College, Peshawar. In a press release, issued here on Wednesday, they said the devastated law and order situation has forced the teachers, staff and students of the college to vacate the area. They said the SMC remained open for only forty days in the current year and on May 4 the Principal of SMC Dr Muhammad Jan announced the closure of the educational institute and ordered the students and other staff to vacate the hostels. However, they added there were still 100 students including girls' students who due to the curfew and uncertain situation were unable to leave the college and shift to their residences. They said SMC was established ten years ago, had a prominent status in the region but for the last three years was facing crises as the fighting between armed forces and militants has also disrupted the peaceful atmosphere of the college. The threaten calls from the unidentified persons have forced the students and teachers to avoid classes and attend the college, while a number of the students were limited to their homes. They said the students have been restricted to their residences because of the prevailing situation, adding that in this tense situation it was not possible for the teachers and student to continue their educational activities, so the authorities keep this situation in mind and order the shifting of SMC to KMC, Peshawar.F.P.
