Punjab University implementing PeopleSoft Campus Solutions


The software will help enhance PU deptts performance: VC Dr Mujahid Kamran


LAHORE (Tuesday, January 06): Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran Tuesday signed a document marking the completion of the first phase of implementation of the PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, an HEC launched programme to uplift the varsities performance by using information technology.

In June of 2007, Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) launched an initiative by which six public sector universities including the University of Punjab are implementing PeopleSoft Campus Solutions. PeopleSoft Campus Solutions is a comprehensive suite of software specifically designed and implemented to address the evolving needs of Higher Education in Pakistan .

The implementation at University of the Punjab started in September 2008 and is expected to complete by mid-2009. The first phase of the implementation, the finalization of requirements was successfully completed with the signoff of the requirements document by the Vice Chancellor. All Deans, Principals, Heads of Departments from all campuses, Faculties and their departments participated actively in this phase to consolidate their rules and policies so that they can be administered centrally.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran said that after the completion of this software Punjab University 's performance will increase manifold and all teaching departments, as well as admin offices especially controller examinations office and registration office will deliver better and quick services. He said that the PU's the main stakeholders, students, would get maximum benefit from this programme. He said that the universities of the developed world are making progress by using information system and software technology and the Punjab University which is the oldest seat of learning in the subcontinent will also progress after the successful implementation of this PeopleSoft Campus Solutions.

The solution at the University of Punjab is being implemented by Techlogix Pakistan (Private) Limited with the support of PU IT Centre. Techlogix has put all available data and education imparting system variables in this software in this first phase of this programme. After the completion of this software, the company will also train officials concerned of Punjab University to successfully run and improve this software. Techlogix representative Ayesha Chaudhry also gave a presentation in the VC Office Committee Room on Tuesday.

PU Registrar Prof Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan, Additional Treasurer Sharif Rao, IT Centre Director Umer Ifikhar and deans of faculties were also present on the occasion.
