Pottery-making programme Ends in Federal Directorate of Education
Islamabad:October 11:The pottery making programme, organised by National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) in collaboration with Federal Directorate of Education and Pakistan Baitul Mal, concluded here at Shakarparian.

Pakistan Baitul Mal Managing Director Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh was the chief guest on the occasion whereas Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) Director General Dr. Shahnaaz A. Riaz graced the ceremony as guest of honour. Lok Virsa Executive Director Dr. Fouzia Saeed was also present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh assured support and cooperation on behalf of Baitul Mal for preserving and documenting various aspects of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

“Pakistan has a rich and diverse culture, which needs to be projected at national and international level”. He also drew the attention of Federal Directorate of Education and the Ministry of CAAD to include ‘culture’ as a subject in the school curriculum.

In her address, Dr. Shahnaaz A. Riaz said that the FDE will continue to collaborate with Lok Virsa for its ongoing initiatives aiming to project Pakistan’s beautiful folk heritage.

Earlier in her welcoming address, Dr. Fouzia Saeed apprised that 20 special children from National Centre for Special Education are also participating in the pottery making programme. “Lok Virsa is happy to facilitate the educational institutions for engaging youth in creative works by providing them on-ground opportunities to learn various crafts from artisans”.

The ceremony presented several vibrant and colourful performances by the children. These included ‘Jeewey, Jeewey Pakistan’national song, popular Punjabi folk songs ‘lai be qadran nal yari te tut gai tarak ker ke’, ‘jugni’, mystic songs and a cultural diversity show by the students of Islamabad Model School for Girls, F-11/1.The news.
