AIOU international conference for values-based education system
Islamabad :20 Feb: Academicians underlined the need of promoting values-based education system to bring about a positive change in the society in 4th international conference held here on Tuesday at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU).

While deliberating upon the conference’s topic ‘Research and Practices’, they also emphasized for linking the academic research and practices with the overall socio-economic development of the country.

The conference was largely attended by the academicians and researchers from home and abroad. Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Zia-Ul-Qayyum who is currently abroad in his message on the occasion hoped that the conference’s deliberations will help to make the academic research more meaningful and productive for reformation of the society.

He assured that the AIOU will be making all possible efforts to help addressing the country’s socio-economic problems through research-based activities and quality education.

At the conference’s inaugural session British-origin academician John Proctor and the AIOU’s former Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui were the key-note speakers. It was also addressed by the acting VC Dean Education Dr. Nasir Mahmood and Dean Social Science Prof. Dr. Samina Awan who spoke about the objectives and significance of the event

The conference was aimed at seeking close collaboration between the academia and the community for improving socio-economic life of the people through research and productive educational practices.

It was the part of the activities, being arranged by the AIOU on regular basis for creating and disseminating knowledge that benefits the society. The conference was arranged by the University’s Faculty of Education.

The speakers also called for revising the whole education system to have a positive impact on the society. They believed that the education could be a most powerful tool to transform the society on healthy lines.

Dr. John Proctor in his address lauded the AIOU for promoting quality research. He particularly praised the University’s education teachers’ training programs. While underling the importance of human values, he said the teachers should be the role model before his students to achieve the desired results.

He said the human-values link respect for others, tolerance and honesty should be main focus in the educational pursuits. In this connection, the role of the schools is highly important. Values-based projects should be undertaken at the educational institutions for the character-building of the students, he added.

Dr. Shahid Siddiqui called for revisiting whole education system for addressing the new challenges and proper brought-up of the new generation. He said education, culture and language could be the best source to influence the public mind.

The objective of the education, he stressed, should be to provide equal opportunities to the people to have their due rights in the society, like freedom of expression.The news.
